With 100 years of history and counting, this federation cottage has just entered its newest stage in life.
When a family of seven fell in love with the entrepreneurial local products of the Northern Rivers, the Life of Reily Co was born. With the vision of centralising a curation of locally sourced lifestyle products, they reached out to JD Built with the responsibility of a respectful heritage store fitout.
And since we have a longstanding trusted partnership, we came alongside JD Built to bring the store its fresh look.
The goal was to respect and maintain the homely heritage tone of the cottage whilst suiting the minimalistic brand of Life of Riley Co. For this reason, the interior kept was largely untouched by carpentry but for brand new timber shelving and benchtops.
To keep the original wooden floor to its existing rustic finish, protection – as always – was a priority. By using a range of iQuip tape, plastic and kraft paper; the only surfaces to be seen was the surfaces getting a fresh coat of paint.
On the prep side of things, sanding is always made easy with a combination of our beloved Festool and Mirka dustless sanding systems – when you go dust-free you never go back.
Then, we kept to an airless spray finish with the Graco 495 PC airless paint sprayer using Graco’s fine finish low pressure (FFLP) spray tips.
The shelving, benches, trims and sash windows were finished in Dulux Aquaenamel Low Gloss whilst the walls were finished in Dulux Wash&Wear Low Sheen. Both in Dulux’s Antique White USA colour.
The originally yellow front door was then prepped and painted using Resene Lumbersider Low Sheen, in their Olive Green colour at the owner’s request.
I enjoy working on new homes and builds, but there is something special about seeing a historical space restored and enjoyed for another generation.
If you have a store fitout or storefront that needs some new life, we’d love to start a conversation. Just get in touch with James and we’ll take it from there.
All the best.
